Many different deformities can be seen in the ear, either congenitally or later. The most common is the prominent ear. In the prominent ear, the angle of the ear with the skull is more than normal, which creates this image. For this reason, the ear appears prominent. In addition to the wide angle, this problem may also be accompanied by the absence of folds in the inner part of the ear.
The aim of the operation is to normalize the angle of the ear with the head and at the same time to reconstruct these folds. Prominent ear surgeries are very diverse. Each doctor applies a different technique. There are many techniques such as prominent ear surgery with thread and open ear surgery.
It is performed under general anesthesia in children and local anesthesia in adults in a hospital environment. The operation takes approximately 1-1.5 hours. The incision is made behind the ear. Permanent sutures are placed to correct the folds and angle of the ear cartilage. After the prominent ear operation, the patient returns home the same day. The ear should remain bandaged for 3 days. Postoperative edema and swelling resolve within 2-3 weeks. It takes 2 months for the ear to take its final shape. In prominent ear surgery, the scar is not visible because the incision is made behind the ear.
In prominent ear problem, the angle of the ear with the head may be higher than it should be. This shows the ear opened outwards. And also the folds that should be in the upper part of the ear are not developed and the ear looks straight.
In ear aesthetics, there are many methods that have the same purpose and are used for surgery. The experience of the plastic surgeon and the degree of deformation of the ear change the outcome of the surgery. In some techniques, an incision is made just behind the ear, in some techniques, aesthetics are made with a thread without an incision, while in other methods, incisions are made in front of the ear. Most of the patients go home in the evening without being in the hospital on the day of surgery. After 2-4 days, the dressings are opened, the person can take a bath. Some patients may need to wear tennis headbands or headbands after the operation.
